Steaming in the Kitchen @IMUSAUSA

I have always loved tamales, well ever since I moved here to Arizona.  Before Arizona I don’t think I have ever had one.  For the past few years I have been wanting to make them myself, I always have someone bringing them to me and they are oh so good.  It seems that everyone’s recipe is a little different but they all taste great.  IMUSA sent me a tamale steamer from their collection of their Latin inspired cookware.

These are great and plenty big enough to make a batch of tamales.  These are made out of an aluminum so they’re lighter weight.

After cooking my chicken for 8 hours in my crockpot on low and then shredding it.  Then mixing in green chilies, chili powder, sliced olives and garlic powder to complete the filling.

I used already made masa and soaked the husks for a few hours.  I think the hardest part was figuring out how to fold and tie the tamales, but once I got the hang of things it went rather smoothly.

My tamales turned out so pretty!!  So easy to steam for a few hours, I couldn’t wait to unwrap them.  The texture was perfect but my flavor was a little bland I still need to perfect my recipe, I think a homemade masa would have been better.

I can’t wait to try steaming lobster or crab!  Check out the great recipes on IMUSA.
